>> it's time for a little orange crush. how about a lot of orange crush actually? >> lots to get to this morning. first, let's check that forecast. good morning. >> good morning, guys. i'm in for christina this half hour. she will be live at 5:00 down at att park bringing you all the excitement from the giants right on the field. we have showers to talk about. the next 15 to 20 minutes in the peninsula. already starting to push into san francisco and, really, the heaviest of stuff now making its way through half-moon bay and over to san mateo. in the next hour to two hours. in fact, the morning commute will be sloppy. keep the umbrellas handy. and of course, give a little extra time on roadways. we'll keep you posted. as far as traffic, i've got the day off, and mike is back. good to see you, mike. >> weren't you just doing this

the other day? he's got two talents, i have just one, so they put me back over here. the bay bridge, a little rain on the lens. we've got some sprinkles and some more rain coming in. so far, light volume of traffic here. we look at 880. up to about 30 seconds ago, i saw some construction north of here, back to you. >> thank you very much. 4:32. we're counting down to the world series this morning. the giants versus the detroit tigers. game one at att park just over 12 hours from now. the billi the big challenge for the giants, pitching. many credit zito from helping them to come back to win the series. go, barry, go. and he'll have to be even better tonight. pitching for the tigers, verlander.

he's allowed just ten hits. fans know him well. they faced him twice in the a.l. division series. coming up, starting at 5:00 a.m. this morning, we're live from att park with a look at how the city is getting ready and the unusual thing some fans are willing to do to get their hands on tickets. if you're going, you have to get there early. since the game starts during rush hour, both bart and cal train will run extra trains. muni says it will add extra service. >> plan ahead. while all eyes are on that world series, it will be there today. now, a look at the giants big bash held at san francisco's fairmont hotel. >> reporter: absolutely can feel the energy. you can feel it in the ballpark. you can feel it now in the city as well. >> it was a fall la affair of giant proportion at the fair mount hotel.

dusting off this brick. celebrating the 2010 world series. >> i think the 2010 world series created a whole new generation of giants fans. friends of mine, their children, maybe weren't baseball fans at the beginning of the season, but forever till they die now they are solid giants fans. >> reporter: for "today in the bay." >> the battle taking place in two cities that have almost nothing in common. san francisco, a destination city, home to a thriving economy and landmarks like the golden gate bridge. detroit is struggling to recover from america's recession which hit the city's auto industry very hard. san francisco mayor ed lee says he can relate to what detroit is going through. >> our giants is a comeback team. detroit's coming back as well. we're both coming back for good reasons in america. we need to bring home to our residents. >> it's customary for mayors to

make a bet on who will win. so far, no word on what that wager might be. >> i'm sure we'll hear. now, a man they say attempted to rob somebody on the stevens creek trail. a man who looked like this approached the victim. and tried to take his backpack. the two struggled and they fell to the ground. the suspect took off without the backpack. the victim suffered some minor injuries. anybody who has that information about the attempted robbery is asked to please call mountain view police. searching for a serial burgl burglar, someone they say doesn't even care if homeowners are home when they strike. eight daylight home burglaries have been reported. police believe a lone suspect is responsible for all of them. in one instance, the suspect escaped after being confronted by the homeowner. police are warning alameda

residents to make sure windows and doors are locked at all times. the warning comings after more than 20 residential burglary reports in just the past three weeks. in one case, burglars even stole the family's pet pug. police say the majority concentrated on the south side of town but so far no leads on suspects. police are asking neighborhood watch groups to keep an eye out for unfamiliar cars or people. a community in mountain view calling on city leaders to make safety improvements on a very busy road for students trying to get to school. three children have been struck this month while crossing cast throw street near graham middle school. fortunately, none of them threatened life threatening injuries. tonight, parents are holding a meeting to talk about what the city can do to improve safety there. the school principal says installing blinking cross lights at crosswalks could be one

answer. many say that will simply create more traffic. the meeting is tonight at 7:00. two south bay girls will be allowed to return to their elementary school today while their mother fights to prove they have a right to be there. the district told the family their daughters' enrollment was being revoked because the family does not live within the district. the family says they do and they gave the school proof. the family believes the district is actually kicking them out to avoid dealing with the girls' life threatening nut allergies. police asked them to leave when they arrived yesterday. the superintendent decided to let the girls return today but their residency status is still under investigation. a cell tower goes up for debate tonight. the san jose planning commission holding a public hearing on whether that tower should be installled near evergreen elementary school. neighbors and parents say they are concerned about the potential effects radiation

could ultimately have on their kids at school. they've collected more than 800 signatures opposing that tower. tonight's public hearing is set for 6:30 in the city council chambers. big red's in the house today. anthony. >> well, i was a cardinals fan because -- >> oh, was. >> i'm from st. louis. that's why she called me big red. go giants. i converted over. now on the radar this morning. as we were talking just about yesterday at this time, more showers in the forecast through your morning rush hour. this activity here approaching half-moon bay and, as it moves through, i wouldn't be surprised if we start to see some small hail approach half-moon bay as we move through the next hour or so. all of this through the mountains. even down towards the south bay. sunnyvale, san jose, free nt mo, even hayward, expect to see showers in the next hour or so. potential for some small hail is likely so keep it slow on those

roadways this morning. you can see, does keep the showers in place through midday. midafternoon, we start to clear out. that's good news , the ground will dry out. by game time, intervals sunshine. so that will be nice as far as the game goes. the winds are still blustery. here is your forecast for game one of the world series. and temperatures will be falling back through the 50s. by 7:00, couldn't rule out the potential for a little bit of drizzle. not expected to be a big washout though. as i mentioned, we will start to see more sunshine. it will be cold today. we're talking about 50s at the coast it only 60 at santa cruz. you'll notice warmer conditions into the east bay. 57 at liver moore. south bay, 64 in san jose. your forecast shows temperatures warming as we head into the weekend. friday and saturday really the pick days. if you have the weekend off, saturday and sunday look really nice with upper 70s to lower

80s. we will break out to more sunshine tomorrow through the weekend. the next chance of rain is tuesday. speaking of rain, how are the roads looking? >> a little damp. let's take your weather data and put it on my traffic maps and we'll get a look. that's the green where the mist might be having some slick pavement. that's the maze and the approach to the bay bridge. now, this continues all the way off to the cartinas bridge and into the north bay. sig alert as well. highway 12 closed in both direction, just off interstate 80. there's a big rig that went off the road eastbound side but both directions are closed as they remove it. if you're trying to get into or out of that area, don't use highway 12. to the south, you have american canyon which connects you. or highway 37, just a little farther to the south. a live look at the peninsula. palo alto looking smooth. but rain coming down from the north so watch that coming in from the coast and from the north. we'll watch this, guys, back to

welcome back, everyone. look at the bay bridge approach to the toll plaza this morning. it is live but a little bit of light rain out there as well making the roadways slick. be careful as you head out the door. allow a little extra time. don't thats cou conta costra is putting its parcel tax known as measure q on the november ballot. expected to raise $17 million for the fire department. if measure q fails, the department will have to shut down 10 of its 28 fire stations over the next three years. the first stations shut down will actually start in january. the fire department says that could result in longer response times. in san mateo county, supervisors passing a preliminary vote to ban most plastic bags.

retailers won't be allowed to put purchases into plastic carryout bags. it applies to all retail establishments. it will not apply to plastic bags used for restaurant food takeout or produce, meat, bulk food and prescription medicines. a final vote on this matter is scheduled for november 6th. san francisco supervisor david chu backing off his plan to ban the yellow pages. chu wanted to bar unsolicited delivery of the directories to homes and businesses. he dropped that idea after the ninth circuit court of appeals overturned a similar ordinance that happened in seattle last week. the markets getting to react to facebook earnings report. the company reported a net loss after the bell. cnbc's hampton pierson live in washington, d.c. with more details and how futures are trading this morning. good morn, hampton. >> how you doing, laura? futures are higher after yesterday's sell-off. that was sparked by

disappointing earnings from the likes of 3m and dupont and the drop of commodity prices oil and gas impacting energy stocks. the dow had its third worst day the year. the fed wraps up its two-day meeting this afternoon but isn't expected to make any major changes in its policy. we get data on manufacturing, new home sales and earnings from att, boeing, eli lilly, delta and us airways. the dow dropping 243 points yesterday to close at 13102. the nasdaq losing 26 to close at 2990. facebook stock rose more than 14% in after hours trading last night on the back of the company's positive earnings. revenue rising 32%. slightly better than expected. the social networking giant may have figured out how to make money from people shifting from pcs to mobile devices. facebook made $153 million from the sale of mobile ads. that's a category that didn't even exist for the company sev months ago.

in the house. well, in the ballpark rather. she will be in the house, about 15 minutes. otherwise, we are still looking at some rain drops. in att park right now, yes, that's a good time that those showeres are there. you can even see as we mentioned earlier still making their way through half-moon bay. that's where the heaviest stuff is right now it eventually as we move through the next hour, all of this activity that's moving on shore will continue to move through. not only the peninsula but also through the east bay and the south bay. so heads up if you live in palo alto, you're next. hayward, freemont, even san jose, expect to see a few rain drops by the next hour or so. it is chilly this morning. we're talking about 40. you need to grab that jacket. 47 in san jose. 43, gilrogilroy. 56 in san francisco. and of course, yes, game one happens tonight. 5:00 right around game time. temperatures will be in the upper 50s. we're expect to see sunshine but you'll notice as we head through 6:00, we keep the clouds in place. it will be breezy and we can't

rule out the potential for drizzle. if you are a skeptic, just throw that rain gear in the car this morning so you have it. 64 in santa rosa. 59 in san francisco. only going to top out at 64 in san jose. definitely jacket weather here as we round out the last few days of october. as we get into november, you'll notice, yes, we are talking about some warming weather as we head to the weekend. and of course, next wednesday, halloween, and it looks like tuesday, we'll start to see showers so that halloween forecast could be unsettled. keep that in mind as we head through the next week. in the meantime, back to john and laura. >> turning now to decision 2012. this morning, changing the tone. with less than two weeks to go before election day, president obama telling americans governor romney cannot be trusted. this, coming as another new poll shows mr. romney closing that gap with voters. nbc's tracie potts. >> reporter: stamina alone won

this election, it might be a draw. president obama in eight states over three days. will tape the tonight show in l.a. tonight and vote tomorrow in chicago. romney hits nevada and iowa today. ohio tomorrow. after telling voters in colorado last night the debate super charged his campaign. he's only one point behind statistically a tie. in the latest reuters poll. >> the president's status quo campaign, you know, going forward with the same ideas as we've seen over the last four years is why he's slipping. >> reporter: in response, president obama showing off his four-year plan in the new booklet being distributed to 3.5 million voters. >> unlike mitt romney, i'm proud to talk about what's in my plan. because first of all the math adds up. >> reporter: he's telling america mitt romney can't be trusted. >> everything he's doing right now is to hide his real position

4:55. remember that chunk of meteor right found by a nevada woman over the weekend? this one turns out to just be a rock. a rock from planet earth it the scientist from the institute would declared the rock was from outer space admits yesterday all right he blew it, it was a mistake. a woman in nevada found that rock. that laura said looks like a baked potato. found it in her yard three days after a massive meteor exploded over the bay area. note to self, don't eat at laura's. she said something hit her roof.
